Within past week, we took the last soil samples for water retention curve, shipped the soil fertility samples for analysis and enjoyed the traditional AgriChar research group harvest dinner. That was a nice way to celebrate the successful completion of the field season 2025 for our long-term biochar field experiments in Finland and Estonia!
This time it is more than just an end of yet another field season (even though its remarkably already 16th season of continuous monitoring of the biochar effects in Nordic soils!) as we celebrated also the completion of field data collection for three of our doctoral students, Samuel Amoah, Zannatul Ferdous and Zhouyang Tian as well as three MSc students, Sofi Paatelma, Jenni Kurvonen and Tharangi Disnika. Congratulations, this is an important step for you! With the winter approaching, we can now focus on analysing the samples of nutrient-loaded aged biochars, soils, leachates, greenhouse gases, earthworms and spring wheat plants collected over the summer. Stay tuned for the results!
Warm thanks also to the dream team of visiting experts making things happen in 2025: Anna Välkki, Diana Vaskiv and Karel Bartoš as well as Franco Castillo Quimbiulco and Markku Tykkyläinen for technical assistance and to Maa- ja vesitekniikan tuki ry for the financial support!
